A suspension is fixed through Google's appeal process and nothing else. Here is how to find the reason, what to fix before you appeal, which documents to gather, and what to expect while you wait.
A suspended profile disappears from Maps and Search, and the calls stop with it. The instinct is to do something fast. The right move is to do the correct things in the correct order, because a rushed appeal gets denied and every denial makes the next one harder.
Do Not Create A New Profile
A second listing for the same business is a duplicate. Google will see it, and now you have two problems instead of one. Work on the profile you have.
Find The Reason Before You Appeal
Google rarely tells you exactly why. Common causes include:
- The business name. Extra keywords, a city name, a slogan, or all capitals. The profile name must match the name on your signage and documents.
- The wrong address type. Showing a street address when customers never visit, or hiding it when they do. A home-based service business should be a service-area business with the address hidden.
- An address that is not allowed. Virtual offices, mailbox stores, and shared suites without permanent signage.
- A category that does not match what the business actually does.
- Duplicate listings for the same location.
- Website or phone number that belongs to someone else, or that does not match the rest of the profile.
- Recent edits to the name, address, or category that changed the profile too much at once.
Fix The Profile First
Correct every issue above before you submit anything. The reviewer will look at the profile as it is when they review the appeal, not as it was when it was suspended. An appeal on a profile that still breaks the rules is a wasted appeal.
Gather Your Documents
Have these ready before you start, because Google may give you a short window to upload them:
- Business registration or formation documents
- Business license, if your trade requires one
- A recent utility bill for the business address
- A tax document showing the business name and address
- Photos of permanent signage and the storefront, if customers visit you
The name and address on every document must match the profile exactly. A mismatch is the most common reason a well-documented appeal still gets denied.
Submit The Official Appeal
Use Google’s reinstatement form, found in the Business Profile help center under “fix a suspended profile.” Select the profile, explain briefly what was wrong and what you fixed, and attach your evidence when asked. Submit once. Repeated submissions do not speed anything up.
While You Wait
- Track the appeal status in the same tool. Decisions also go to the email on the account.
- Do not edit the profile while the appeal is open unless Google asks you to.
- If the appeal is denied, you can request an additional review, but only after the decision, and only with stronger evidence than the first time.
What a vendor can and cannot do. A good listings company will find the guideline problem, fix the profile, assemble documents that match, and write the appeal. Nobody, including us, can bypass Google’s review or guarantee reinstatement. If a company promises a guaranteed result, they are describing something that does not exist.
If you want help preparing an appeal, our Google Business Profile service covers it. If you would rather handle it yourself, the steps above are the whole process.
